Differentiation

I wanted to sprinkle in some of the resources we have on campus that we could use to differentiate our lessons and activities based on the needs of our learners.

Option: Differentiate your Subjects' Menus

Many of us use menus while we pull our learners. One option to increase your differentiation is to differentiate your menus. That way when you are pulling learners, the rest of your class is working on guiding activities on their level. We have resources titled "Differentiating Instruction with Menus" in Math, Language Arts, and Science.

Check one out, and let's plan together how to differentiate your menus! Also, collaborating with your house so we are getting ideas for below grade and above grade activities!

The resource look like this:

Option: Adjust your learners' lessons on Think Central-Go Math

You could modify the lessons you push out to your learners on GoMath. (Not sure what GoMath is or how to assign different activities based on need?- schedule me!)

Option: Learners reading books on their independent level and instructional level

During your ELAR block, your learners could be independent reading/partner reading books on their INDEPENDENT level AND INSTRUCTIONAL level. Not sure where to check out leveled books? Check out our literacy library in the media center and Reading A-Z to pull leveled readers.

Use this resource to help you gain insight on what they should be learning on their instructional reading level:

Option: Use the LLI kits during your small group instruction

We have several LLI Kits that you can check out from the literacy library for your ELLs and/or struggling readers. This is GREAT documentation for your RTI learners. Not sure how to use this resource? Schedule me, and I would love to model how to use this!

Option: Use differentiated I-Station Lessons for your learners

You can also pull lessons on I-station based on your learners' needs and do it the with your small group. Let me know if I can work with you to analyze your iStation data, pull lessons and co-teach with you using the differentiated lessons.

Option: Have a plan for your small groups and a way to track their learning:

I got to be a fly on the wall in Leslie Howard's ELAR block last week, and wanted to share how she differentiates her reading and writing groups. It was AMAZING-if you would like to schedule a learning walk, let me know!

She analyzes her learners' DRA and iStation reports and creates goals for them. She then pulls from the If (your learner is struggling with this) THEN (teach this) section in the "Reading Strategies" and "Writing Strategies" resource I shared a few weeks ago. She pulls her groups by their levels twice a day and uses the resource to guide her small group of learners. After teaching the strategy- she documents how her learners are doing. She has a schedule of meeting with her groups to ensure she meets with everyone every week. Here is how she documents her groups and their needs..*I am hosting a FEDEX learning about using date to drive quality small group instruction and will be showing videos from her ELAR block. We will dig more into these documents. Please come if you are interested!! :)

Do you have other ways you differentiate your lessons or other resources that would help us with planning? Please share and let me know!! As always, please let me know if you need anything! :)
