Next Steps for Lucy Calkins & New ELAR TEKS
Thank you for letting me spend time sharing about how to plan out an entire Unit of Study with your grade level. I hope this will be helpful next year! Here is what we went over in Team Time incase you would like to save this as a resource.
Overview on how to plan out a UOS:
As a team, create a folder to map out the entire UOS. Start with the UOS goals, then decide what assessments you want to assess in the UOS, decide what materials you need for the UOS, then jot down a gist"or overview of each bend. This will make the following year helpful as you plan!
Next, break down a Bend as a team by completing "An Arc of the Bend" (Or break apart the bends and get more of them covered in one planning meeting!) This will help you see the progression of mini lessons and see what TEKS are not covered and need additional resources.
Finally, backwards plan a mini lesson. Start with the link/connection --> teaching point --> Teaching --> Active Engagement --> Mid Workshop Teaching --> Share.
New ELAR TEKS
Thank you again for letting me share about the new ELAR TEKS. Here is your "Side by Side" booklet digitally incase you want to save it as a resource for next year. We will continue to look at these new TEKS next year since so many of them have changed. I will let you know as soon as I hear when/if they have identified the Readiness and Supporting Standards. Here is a resource that has some great resources for the New TEKS if you want to dive into it. I plan to utilize some of these next year as we learn the new standards!
